Biography

As one of the internationally emerging spinto tenors of the new generation, Aleksandrs Antonenko has speedily made a remarkable career at the leading opera houses of the world. He first came to public attention when he won the Paul Sakss Prize in 2002 and the Great Latvian Music Prize in 2004, and then he began his international career as one of the most outstanding spinto tenors of the younger generation. Among his numerous current and future engagements, he appeared at leading opera houses like Semperoper Dresden, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Wiener Staatsoper, Opera de Bordeaux, Opera de Monte-Carlo and Deutsche Oper am Rhein, where he was acclaimed for the demanding role of Giuseppe Hagenbach in La Wally. At the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm and at the Norske Opera in Oslo, he sang the role of Des Grieux (Manon Lescaut), which was also his debut role at the Vienna State Opera in 2006. At the Latvian National Opera, he first sang Sergey in Shostakovich?s Lady Macbeth of the Mzensk District in January 2006. During the 2006/07 season, Aleksandrs Antonenko appeared at the Norske Opera in Oslo (Don José), the Deutsche Oper Berlin (Turiddu), the Opéra de Monte-Carlo (Turiddu) and at the Baden-Baden Festival (Cavaradossi). Aleksandrs Antonenko sang, among other roles, Gabriele Adorno (Simon Boccanegra) at the Frankfurt Opera and Ismaele in a new production of Nabucco at the Bavarian State Opera. As Verdi?s Otello he made his debut at the Salzburg Festival in summer 2008 in a new production under the baton of Maestro Riccardo Muti. He sang also a new production of Otello at the Teatro dell?Opera di Roma. In february 2009 he made his debut at the Metropolitan Opera New York in Rusalka (Prince with René Fleming) with a big success. In 2010 he sang at Wiener Staatsoper Pique Dame and Otello as well as in Valencia Turriddu in Cavalleria Rusticana and at the Metropolitan Opera a new production of Boris Godunov (Dimitri).
