The Chinese bass, who studied voice in Tianjin and Beijing, has won numerous prizes at international voice competitions, e.g. the International ARD Music Competition in Munich and the International Opera Competition in Japanese Shizuoka. For his “La calunnia” from Rossini’s Il barbiere di Siviglia he was awarded a special prize at Neue Stimmen 1997. A member of the ensemble at the Stuttgart Staatsoper since 2006/07, the singer’s vast repertoire includes König Marke (Tristan und Isolde), Gurnemanz (Parsifal), Ramfis (Aida), Timur (Turandot), Sarastro (Die Zauberflöte) and the Commendatore (Don Giovanni).
Guest engagements, also as a concert singer, have led the artist to, among other venues, the Wiener Festwochen, the Edinburgh International Festival, the New National Theatre in Tokyo, the Deutsche Oper Berlin, the Dresden Semperoper, the Deutsche Oper am Rhein and the Palau de les Arts in Valencia.
