Matthias Goerne has received worldwide praise for his warm, fluid baritone voice and his profound artistry. Highly respected as a Lieder singer, he is a frequent guest at most prestigious venues like the New York Carnegie Hall and London Wigmore Hall, and renowned pianists such as Pierre-Laurent Aimard, Leif-Ove Andsnes, Alfred Brendel, and Elisabeth Leonskaja are among his musical partners.
Matthias Goerne is equally acclaimed on the concert stage where he appears at the leading venues and festivals with the world’s foremost conductors and orchestras such as Berlin Philharmonic, Orchestre National de France, Philharmonia Orchestra London, Chicago Symphony and New York Philharmonic. Also increasingly sought-after as an opera performer, Matthias Goerne has appeared at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Salzburg Festival, Saito Kinen Festival, Teatro Real Madrid, Opernhaus Zuerich, and the Met in New York. Matthias Goerne has an exclusive contract for solo recordings many of which received prestigious awards.
From 2008 to 2011, he will record a series of 11 Schubert CDs for the Harmonia mundi label. In 2001 Goerne was appointed as Honorary Member of the Royal Academy of Music. Born in Weimar, he studied with Hans-Joachim Beyer in Leipzig, with Elisabeth Schwarzkopf and Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau.
