In his 2011 Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, Royal Ballet Artistic Associate Christopher Wheeldon creates a captivating new incarnation with all the vividness of the beloved eponymous children’s tale. The three-act ballet’s choreography accentuates the fantastical and cinematic elements of the original story yet keeps Lewis Carroll’s enigmatic and fanciful spirit at its center. Bob Crowley's brilliant sets and costumes are closely inspired by John Tenniel's original illustrations, and complement the strong narrative voice of Joby Talbot’s original musical score, brilliantly performed by the Royal Opera House Orchestra under the baton of Koen Kessels. The production is rounded off with an array of excellent performances, including Lauren Cuthbertson as a mischievous Alice, the elegant Federico Bonelli as the charming Knave, and the powerful Laura Morera as the hysterical Queen of Hearts.
