Victoria by Cathy Marston, music by Philip Feeney Northern Ballet

About

This magnificent contemporary ballet by Cathy Marston recounts the fascinating life of Queen Victoria, told through the eyes of her daughter Beatrice. Performing to an original score by Philip Feeney, the Leeds-based Northern Ballet paints a moving tableau of one of history’s most iconic and emblematic figures through different periods of her long life — from the effervescent, powerful young woman who took the throne to the tragic widow dressed in black after the death of Prince Albert.

After the Queen’s death, her daughter Princess Beatrice — now a widow herself and seeking to find out more about her mother and father — looks to the diaries Victoria has left behind for answers... To bring Victoria’s memories to life, the dancers of the Northern Ballet execute Marston’s captivating choreography with elegance and emotion, immersing us in the lives of one of the 19th-century’s most famous families against a striking and modern backdrop.
