One of the most anticipated events of the classical calendar, the Vienna Philharmonic's exquisite New Year's Concert brings the musicians of the prestigious orchestra together under the baton of a different influential conductor each year. Centered around a wide variety of dances in the Viennese style—especially the world-famous waltzes of the Strauss family—every edition brims with stately serenity and a hint of mischief, the perfect way to begin your New Year in music.
In 2015, a conducting luminary with four previous appearances at the Vienna Philharmonic New Year's Concert returned to lead the festivities: the great Zubin Mehta. For his fifth edition, Mehta and the orchestra begin the show with von Suppé's Overture from Morning, Noon and Night in Vienna, a tribute to the city's majesty and joie de vivre. Exuberant dances by the Strauss family dynasty and Danish composer Hans Christian Lumbye then fill the stunning Musikverein with a celebratory ambiance befitting the occasion.
