The Vienna Philharmonic’s New Year’s Concert at the Wiener Musikverein is one of the most beloved events in classical music, ringing in each new year for over eight decades with a joyful celebration in the Viennese tradition. Tickets to see the Vienna Philharmonic in their trademark repertoire sell out a year in advance, but for the second year running, you can also catch every note on medici.tv.
For the 2023 edition of this anticipated event, Austrian maestro Franz Welser-Möst returns to lead the storied orchestra—following many successful collaborations, including at the 2011 and 2013 New Year's Concerts—in a selection of festive works, including waltzes and polkas by the Strauss family. Many of these pieces are being played for the first time at a Vienna Philharmonic New Year's Concert, including Josef Strauss's polka Heiterer Muth (Blithe Spirits) in a vocal arrangement performed by the world-renowned Vienna Boys' Choir and Vienna Girls' Choir.
