Legendary, rarely-filmed pianist Arcadi Volodos dedicates a recital to works by Scriabin, Ravel, Schumann and Liszt at the heart of the storied Musikverein in Vienna.
A "keyboard genius," as he has been nicknamed, Arcadi Volodos is an incredible pianist renowned in particular for the high technicity of his art of playing and his subtle musical phrasing that make his performances highly poetic. Considered one of the best pianists of our times, Arcadi Volodos studied under Galina Eguizarova at Moscow Conservatory. He has already performed alongside renowned orchestras such as the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra, the Staatskapelle Dresden and under the baton of the greatest conductors of our time. Often compared to Vladimir Horowitz, Arcadi Volodos's art of playing is full of dexterity, power and gentleness.
For this concert at the Vienna Musikverein in 2009, he brings great finesse and virtuosity to Scriabin's preludes, before translating the most subtle musical motifs of Ravel's Valses nobles et sentimentales. With Schumann's Waldszenen, he leads the audience in a very lively musical walk in the woods, before the final work of the program, Liszt's grandiose and thunderously virtuosic Fantasia quasi sonata.
