Daniel Barenboim conducts Beethoven and Tchaikovsky – With Martha Argerich West-Eastern Divan Orchestra

About

Daniel Barenboim and his West-Eastern Divan Orchestra share the stage with the extraordinary Martha Argerich in this concert of Romantic masterworks by Beethoven and Tchaikovsky in Buenos Aires’s sumptuous Teatro Colón.

In 1795, Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 2 was premiered in Vienna under the direction of Antonio Salieri with the composer himself as soloist. The influence of Mozart and Haydn's classicism is present through this early masterpiece, interwoven with unmistakably Beethovenian elements that would mature over the course of his career. Barenboim's incandescent reading of Tchaikovsky’s fate-driven 1878 Fourth Symphony completes this monumental program.
