Sayaka Shoji, Nelson Goerner, Yuri Bashmet, and Evgeny Kissin play Brahms Verbier Festival 2011

About

Evgeny Kissin, Yuri Bashmet, Sayaka Shoji, and Nelson Goerner performed Brahms duos at the 2011 Verbier Festival.

In the first half of this concert from the 2011 Verbier Festival, the Argentinian pianist Nelson Goerner accompanied Sayaka Shoji, the youngest winner ever of the International Paganini Violin Competition, propelled onto the international music scene by Zubin Mehta who noticed her talent very early in her career.

The second half of the concert was presented by two giants of classical music and true masters of their instruments: Evgeny Kissin at the piano and Yuri Bashmet at the viola. As an encore, the duo performed the superb second movement of Czech composer Benda’s Violin Concerto in transcription for viola and piano, a signature work for Bashmet, who is responsible for the work’s return to popularity.
