In rare footage from 1985, Evgeny Svetlanov transports us into the Nordic soul as he leads the State Symphony Orchestra of the USSR in Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 1, “Winter Daydreams”. The great maestro made conducting world-renowned ensembles in the Russian repertoire his life’s work... from Scriabin, Glinka, and Glazunov to Rimsky-Korsakov, Stravinsky, and, last but not least, Tchaikovsky, whose complete symphonies he conducts in this series of archival concert recordings.
This program has been kindly shared with us by the Evgeny Svetlanov Foundation to celebrate the maestro's 90th anniversary.
