The Symphony “Pathétique” brings the great Evgeny Svetlanov’s complete cycle of Tchaikovsky’s Symphonies to a close, with the maestro once more at the head of the State Symphony Orchestra of the USSR. The composer claimed to have cried “abundant tears” for this expressive and somber work. The great maestro made conducting world-renowned ensembles in the Russian repertoire his life’s work... from Scriabin, Glinka, and Glazunov to Rimsky-Korsakov, Stravinsky, and, last but not least, Tchaikovsky, whose complete symphonies he conducts in this series of archival concert recordings.
This program has been kindly shared with us by the Evgeny Svetlanov Foundation to celebrate the maestro's 90th anniversary.
