Following their exquisite all-Fauré chamber concert, the dream team of Aspen alumni — violinist Joshua Bell, cellist Steven Isserlis, and pianist Jeremy Denk — reunites at the 2024 Aspen Music Festival and School for another all-time favorite piece combining their instruments: Beethoven's "Triple" Concerto in C! The success of this concerto for trio, one of the only (and by far the best-known) of its kind, depends on the individual talents of each soloist as well as their shared musical rapport — and we couldn't imagine a better lineup than these three superstar friends and longtime collaborators to pull off one of the grandest and most ebullient gems in Beethoven's oeuvre. They join the Aspen Festival Orchestra under the direction of the great Jane Glover, who also conducts another unconventional concerto: Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra, one of the Hungarian great's final compositions before his death — a virtuosic showpiece for each orchestral section, and a resounding hit with critics and audiences since its first performance in 1944.
Watch Jeremy Denk, Joshua Bell, and Steven Isserlis talk about preparing this concerto in our special feature!
