Recently named Ambassador of the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Jonas Kaufmann stars in the "One Humanity Concert," an exceptional recital at Geneva's Palais des nations!
Accompanied by pianist Helmut Deutsch, the celebrated tenor performs a selection of lieder that includes both well-known pieces like Brahms' Berceuse in D, as well as little-known gems such Liszt's Freudvoll und Leidvoll. It's to the great Hungarian composer that Kaufmann dedicated the first half of the program, as well as his latest album, recorded during the pandemic: "I’m very pleased that our enforced rest made this album possible – under normal circumstances, it would probably not have come into existence quite so quickly. As a result we were able to record not only those Liszt songs that we had already tried out in the concert hall but also a number of others that until now have been overshadowed by Liszt’s 'great hits'". The evening begins with this discovery of the lesser-known treasures of Liszt's repertoire, before Kaufmann and Deutsch lead us on an exploration of masterpieces by Schubert, Dvořák, Böhm, Chopin, Tchaikovsky, and Zemlinsky.
