Katia and Marielle Labèque perform Philip Glass's Cocteau Trilogy Fondation Louis Vuitton

About

The stupendous Katia and Marielle Labèque have brought their pianistic alchemy to the work of Philip Glass for many years — and in this multi-sensorial concert from Paris's Fondation Louis Vuitton, they take on Glass's trilogy of operas from the 1990s based on the works of avant-garde artist, writer, and filmmaker Jean Cocteau: Orphée, La Belle et la Bête, and Les Enfants Terribles, presented in piano duet arrangements prepared specifically for the Labèque sisters, who bring out the crystalline elegance of Glass's minimalist figures and relentless forward motion. "These scores," writes The Guardian in a four-star review of the production — staged by Nina Chalot and Cyril Teste — "contain some of Glass's finest music […] played with all the Labèques' usual flair and precision."
