Lahav Shani conducts Beethoven and Tchaikovsky — With Kirill Gerstein Orchestre de Paris

About

Due to health concerns, Martha Argerich will not perform as originally scheduled. The program remains unchanged.

Piano virtuoso Kirill Gerstein returns to the Philharmonie de Paris for an exceptional concert alongside the Orchestre de Paris and the dynamic Lahav Shani! Gerstein takes the sparkling solo role in Beethoven's first mature concerto for the piano, known due to its later publication date as the Piano Concerto No. 2—a piece that shows both the indebtedness of the young Beethoven to Mozart and the singularly dramatic ardor that would continue to underpin Beethoven's later work. Shani then leads the world-class ensemble in Tchaikovsky's Fifth Symphony, a stormy battle with destiny—as emblematized in the recurrent "fate" motif—that ultimately ends in triumph.

This is just one of over a thousand thrilling concerts available on medici.tv, the web's leading classical music streaming platform!
