Maestro Fabio Luisi, the DNSO's principal conductor, presides over the jury for the third time in the 2024 edition.
This challenging semifinal round begins with a brand-new commissioned piece, followed by the candidate's choice between Debussy's La Mer (first movement), Ravel's La Valse, and Bartók's Concerto for Orchestra (first movement). In the afternoon, action continues with each candidate conducting the first movement of the Flute Concerto by Carl Nielsen, the great Danish composer of whose work the DNSO has been a longtime champion.
