Official Opening Concert of the Lucerne Festival 2021 Lucerne Festival

About

Meet Maestro Chailly at the helm of the Lucerne Festival Orchestra for a superb concert, recorded during the 2021 Lucerne Festival! The evening begins with two works by Mozart: the monumental Overture to Don Giovanni (“the opera of operas”, as Wagner once described it), both grandiose and subtle, and the powerful Symphony No. 40, considered by some as a precursor to musical Romanticism due its deeply emotional nature. The ensemble concludes the concert with Schubert’s Symphony No. 6, one of the composer’s less performed works. The dialogue between strings and winds, supported by a rich and mesmerizing orchestration, is a token of the Austrian genius’ mastery.
