About

The documentary series, Une histoire de la musique à travers ses instruments (A History of Music Through its Instruments), takes a look at the history of the instruments used in Western music. Here, you can find out more about the flute.

The history of the flute goes back to prehistoric times, as evidenced by an instrument made from the radius of a vulture found in a German cave. Flutes, on the other hand, originated in Asia (there are reproductions dating from the ninth century BC). Many documents prove that the Romans also used the flute, which was a religious instrument played by musicians in Etruscan temples.
