In November 2019, composers whose work has already indelibly marked our era—from Penderecki and Alexey Shor to Georgs Pelecis and Sir Karl Jenkins—were united in beautiful Yerevan, Armenia, for a unique celebration of their craft: the Contemporary Classics Composers’ Festival! Hosted by the Armenian State Symphony Orchestra (ASSO) and founding conductor Sergey Smbatyan, the festival dedicated an evening to each composer in turn, highlighting their indispensable contributions to the advancement of music around the world—both as an artform and as a shared cultural practice that brings people together.
