Dance and Degas A Closer Look at "The Painter of Dancers"

About

Considered shocking and subversive by his contemporaries, Edgar Degas' paintings of ballet dancers went on to become the world's most famous works of art. Follow the detailed research of Richard Kendall and Jill de Vonyar, curators of an exceptional October 2002 exhibition of the artist's work in the United States.

Opened in 1875 when Degas was 30, the Palais Garnier would become the painter's studio for the greater part of the next two decades. This hour-long 2003 film directed by Mischa Scorer uses the Palais Garnier and its archives as a setting for exploring Degas' life, work, and legacy.
