Watch this portrait of George London, the famous bass-baritone who sang on the side of stars Maria Callas, Renata Tebaldi and Nicolai Gedda, to name but a few!
George London was one of the most impressive bass-baritones of the postwar era. He sang on the side of Maria Callas, Renata Tebaldi and Nicolai Gedda, to name only a few. He captured the audience’s heart with his distinctive voice and his charismatic stage presence. He had to end his singing career early due to a vocal chord disease.
The documentary portrays this exceptional artist in all its diversity. It shows rare archive footages of his greatest performances as an opera singer and as an interpreter of traditional spirituals. The film presents also several interviews, one his widow Nora London, interviews of his former colleagues' and experts', and interviews of current stars of the opera scene, such as Neil Shicoff, Catherine Malfitano and Deborah Polaski. They have either been taught by George London, or they have been supported in their career by the George London Foundation or they have considered themselves as his followers.
