Inspired by André Campra's opera Idomeneo, Mozart's opera is based on a libretto by Giambattista Varesco, written in Italian. "I think it is a human drama; It is mostly about feelings and communication," says Bernarda Fink (Idamante).
Nayo Titzin met with Grammy Award-winner René Jacobs, conducting the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra for a new recording of Idomeneo, produced by and released on the Harmonia Mundi label in 2009.
René Jacobs, a specialist of this repertoire, shares his fine comprehension of the work with Nayo Titzin's camera. The conductor's meticulousness (he studies a facsimile of Mozart's manuscript) as well as the singers' deep understanding of the characters' psychology help unveil Mozart's masterpiece.
