A documentary on the World Orchestra for Peace, a brainchild of the great conductor Sir Georg Solti.
The World Orchestra for Peace was founded in 1995, at the behest of the United Nations, by Sir Georg Solti to reaffirm, in his words, "the unique strengh of music as an ambassador for peace." The orchestra is an ensemble of select players plucked from the the world's best orchestras, gathered on exceptional occasions. At the inaugural United Nations concert in Geneva, Sir Georg Solti confessed: "I am a passionate believer in peace. All my life I have been involved in revolution, both fascist and communist. It has taught me to believe passionately in peace. When we started this concert idea, I wanted to prove – which I now prove so brilliantly – we are about forty nations in this orchestra together, and we live in such harmony, playing so beautifully together, we prove that we can live in peace. I wish politicians, from the left or right wings, could do the same."
The orchestra was officially designated Unesco Artist for Peace in 2010.
