About

The movie director Benjamin Bleton draws an intimate portrait of the great French pianist, Brigitte Engerer.

Far from a traditional biography, Benjamin Bleton focuses on the most moving moments of the musician's life: her childhood, her life in Russia and the teaching of Stanislav Neuhaus, her musical friends and her fondness for chamber music, the Pianoscope festival and her last concert in the company of Boris Berezovsky at the Salle Pleyel in Paris... Indeed, Brigitte Engerer's successes as a musician were manifold. She won several international competitions, including the prestigious the Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow and the Queen Elizabeth Competition in Brussels. During her career, she was invited to perform with the greatest directors of the 20th century, such as Herbert von Karajan, Daniel Barenboim or Zubin Mehta. Yet, Brigitte Engerer was first and foremost a woman with great human qualities who left an imperishable memory to her students, and commanded her fellow musicians' respect.

Through poignant archive footage, in which she confides in journalists Olivier Bellamy, Alain Duault, Phillppe Labro and in Benjamin Bleton, Brigitte Engerer tells us the story of her life.
