Barbara Hendricks, Tribute to Gershwin in Paris L'Olympia 2001

About

One of the most internationally-celebrated American sopranos pays tribute to one of the most brilliant American composers of the 20th century. Filmed live at Paris’s Olympia, Barbara Hendricks’s concert recital presents some of George Gershwin’s most memorable and groundbreaking compositions, including selections from his opera Porgy and Bess, whose blues- and jazz-infused music tells a captivating tale of African American life in a format that took on prejudice and challenged societal norms. Hendricks shares the stage with jazz trio, saxophone, piano, and string orchestra under the direction of Paul Bateman.
