Omer Avital is a credit to Israeli jazz, during this 2013 concert recorded at the Nice Jazz Festival. Born in Israël in 1971, this talented double bassist began his musical journey with the study of classical guitar at the local conservatoire, before bridging the gap to jazz, pop, and folk at th start of his career, which leads him to compose his own works from the start of the 1990's. Here, we find him accompanied by Avishai Cohen on trumpet (homonym of the Israeli double bassist) as well as Joel Frahm on saxophone, interpreting his original, harmonically rich compositions.
Upon his arrival in New York in 1992, Omer Avital plays a wide range of the jazz repertoire alongside renowned musicians like Nat Adderley and Roy Haynes. He hones his particularly dynamic brand of jazz in local clubs. It is in 2001 that he first encounters fame with his Think With Your Heart album, a turning point in his career. From that point on, he releases many successful albums and receives prestigious awards such as Israel's Prime Minister's Award. Today, he is considered one of his homeland's finest jazz musicians, equaling double bassist Avishai Cohen, Yaron Herman, and Shai Maestro.
