The Contemporary-Conducting Program at the Lucerne Festival has become, since its founding in 2016, a veritable institution. For three weeks each year, young conductors have the chance to practice and refine their art alongside the Lucerne Festival Contemporary Orchestra, receiving priceless feedback from program director Baldur Brönniman as well as many other big-name figures of the contemporary scene. In this session from September 2024, British conductor Josephine Korda (subtitute conductor at the Northern Ballet, assistant conductor of the Opéra de Massy, and student of the Paris Opera Academy) and Spanish conductor Daniel Huertas (guest conductor of the Orchestre des Pays de Savoie and assistant conductor of the Ensemble Intercontemporain) hone their craft under the guidance of the great George Benjamin in his own Concerto for Orchestra — an invaluable and formative opportunity for these two promising talents to gain precious real-world experience alongside an established legend in their field.
