Israeli cellist Amit Peled, one of the most sought-after pedagogues on his instrument, works with Mariona Camats on Saint-Saëns' Allegro Appassionato Op. 43 in a masterclass at the Villa Sandra Lesa.
In the early 1870s, Saint-Saëns gave cellists a gift of two beautiful new works for their instrument: the Concerto No. 1 in 1872 and the Sonata No. 1 dedicated to the cellist Jules Lasserre. It was also to Lasserre that the composer's 1873 Allegro Appassionato is dedicated. This short piece, now a standard of the cello repertoire, owes its popularity to Pablo Casals who relentlessly defend the work at the beginning of the 20th century.
