With its complex geometries, Hans Abrahamsen’s Snow Queen reminds us of a delicate snowflake: unique and inimitable! On the stage of the Bayerische Staatsoper, superb soprano Barbara Hannigan and a musical ensemble of the highest caliber, including Peter Rose, Katarina Dalayman, and Rachael Wilson, give life to the debut performance of the English version of this sharp and enchanting opera. 

Inspired by the Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale, The Snow Queen tells the story of Gerda and Kay, two inseparable friends whose bond is put to the test by a wicked witch’s spell. This coming-of-age story, brilliantly put to music by the Bayerische Staatsorchester—which celebrated its 500th anniversary in 2023—will not fail to warm your heart!
