In a tavern in Nuremberg, a poet tells the stories of his unhappy love affairs to anyone who would listen, under the watchful eye of the Muse—who seeks to become the sole object of his devotion! Thus unfolds Offenbach’s beloved Tales of Hoffmann, presented here at the Hamburg Opera in a critically acclaimed production. The “traditional but effective” staging provides the orchestra (led by maestro Kent Nagano) and a cast of top-notch soloists with the ideal setting to showcase their talent, offering the audience a production of the highest quality and with limitless charms. Benjamin Bernheim particularly shines in the role of Hoffmann, as one who “possesses all the romantic fervor of the idealist poet struggling with reality” (ResMusica).
