Catch the final round of the Sixteenth Van Cliburn International Piano Competition live from Fort Worth, Texas! Out of our thirty original competitors, only six remain—and each young virtuoso performs two concertos, chosen from two different lists of repertoire favorites ranging from Beethoven to Bartók!
At a gala dinner in 1958, a group of Cliburn's friends and admirers announced their plans to create a piano competition in his honor—much to the pianist's surprise. Four years later, the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition was born with the goal of helping young pianists' careers by supporting them over the course of the three years following their prize-winning performances. The competition quickly endeared itself not just to the international classical music community, but also to the citizens of Fort Worth, who enthusiastically follow the event. Taking place every four years, the competition has welcomed hundreds of talented pianists and music professionals over its fifty-year history.
