Four chamber music experts combine their talents in this 1993 concert! Pianist András Schiff, violinist Yuuko Shiokawa, violist Nobuko Imai, and cellist Miklós Perényi perform a masterpiece of the Romantic repertoire: Brahms's Piano and String Quartet No. 1 in G minor, premiered in 1861 by the great Clara Schumann, a great friend and supporter of the composer. The last movement of this work (which was also orchestrated by Schoenberg in 1948), a fiery “gypsy-style” rondo, is particularly well-suited to the incisive playing of the legendary András Schiff.
