In many ways this young trumpeter feels like an emblem for New Orleans jazz in the modern world. Not because he plays ragtime, but because his music can be said to embody the experimental and inclusive spirit of the city.
Scott was born in New Orleans, at the root of the jazz tree. He is the grandson of Big Chief Donald Harrison Sr., the nephew of jazz saxophonist Donald Harrison Jr., and a chieftain of an Afro New Orleanian Tribe.
His sound, dubbed “Stretch Music,” is all about further expansion of the jazz tradition through encompassing all manner of forms, cultures and languages. It acts as a musical experience that incorporates hip-hop before reaching back through the American canon into African percussion and its rich melodic content.
This 2019 performance sees him joined by a stellar cast in Sofia, Bulgaria.
