Nasheet Waits fulfils his dream of returning to the African Motherland. In the spring of 2018, he travelled to Bamako with Tarus Mateen, and surrounded himself with singers and percussionists. In Mali, the cradle of the blues, music rhymes with astronomy and the album Children of the Star, where the groove borders on hypnosis, is to be read in the light of the cosmogony of the Dogon people.

One of the most prominent drummers on the US scene, Nasheet Waits trained with Max Roach and Ed Blackwell, and extends the interstellar dream of the Rolling Stones in Children of the Star.
