The young soprano Tehila Nini Goldstein, who was born in New York and grew up in Israel, is an emerging young soloist and passionate chamber musician. Her repertoire includes classical opera as well as baroque, contemporary and Israeli music. She is has been the winner of the Tel Aviv Music Academy Singing Competition, received a scholarship from the America Israel Cultural Foundation and was also a prize winner in the prestigious Liederkranz Foundation Competition in New York. At the Innsbrucker Festwochen in 2011, she won second prize in the International Singing competition for Baroque Opera Pietro Antonio Cesti.
In spring 2009, she gave her very successful debut with William Christie and his ensemble Les Arts Florissants as a member of the Le Jardin des Voix academy. She performed with Le Jardin des Voix at the Barbican Center, Berlin Philharmonie, Cité de la musique Paris, Den Norske Opera Oslo, Auditorio Nacional Madrid, Palau de la musica Barcelona, Grand Théâtre de Aix-en-Provence and at the Alice Tully Hall in New York. The semi-staged program of arias by Purcell, Monteverdi, Rameau, Rossi, Caccini and Carissimi received great acclaim from critics and audiences alike. That same year, she was invited by Dawn Upshaw and Osvaldo Golijov to participate in a training programme at Carnegie Hall where she premiered a piece by the composer Matti Kovler, dedicated to her. In the summer of 2010 she gave a number of concerts at the Festival d'Aix-en-Provence's Académie européenne de musique.
Her repertoire includes a number of Mozart roles, such as Pamina (The Magic Flute), Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), Mademoiselle Silberklang (The Impresario), Despina (Così fan tutte) as well as the title roles in Rossini's Semiramide and Händel's Alcina, Armidain Händel's Rinaldo, Belinda and Dido in Purcell's Dido and Aeneas, Serpina in Pergolesi's La serva Padrona, Giulietta from Bellini's I Capuleti e i Montecchi and Norina from Donizetti's Don Pasquale. Mahler's Symphony No. 4, Berlioz's Les nuits d'été, Monteverdi's Book 7 and Händel's Cantata Armida Abbandonata form Tehila Goldstein's core concert repertoire.
Tehila Nini Goldstein also devotes herself passionately to Lied repertoire. Together with the pianist Hinrich Alpers she performs some of the most wonderful romantic and 20th century Lieder, and she is constantly searching for new arrangements and themes in the world of Lied.
Tehila Nini Goldstein studied at the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at Tel Aviv University and with the soprano Efrat Ben-Nun. She also worked with the vocal coaches David Jones and Patricia McCaffrey in New York as well as Abbie Formansky and John Norris in Berlin. Already as a child, she sang under the baton of Claudio Abbado, Kurt Masur and Zubin Mehta as a member of the Ankor Choir. She has since been a soloist with orchestras such as the National Opera Center Symphony Orchestra in New York, Haifa Symphony Orchestra, Israel Symphony Orchestra Rishon LeZion and the Israel Chamber Orchestra and has performed throughout Europe, Israel and North America. She has worked together with Harmut Höll. Hilde Zadek, Mira Zakai, Dawn Upshaw and Zehava Gal. Since 2003, Tehila Nini Goldstein has collaborated closely with Ensemble Meitar, an ensemble specializing in contemporary Jewish and Israeli music.
She will begin the 2011/12 season with Les Arts Florissants at the Théâtre de Caen and the Grand Théâtre Luxembourg in a new production of Cavalli's La Didone.
