Relive a masterful moment of music in the company of two monuments of the classical stage as Sir Simon Rattle and Sir András Schiff combine their mighty forces to interpret the complete works for piano and orchestra by Hungarian composer Béla Bartók. Along with the excellent City of Birmingham Symphony, they embark on a journey that sees them take on these three highly complex masterpieces in this series of archival treasures from 1997. On the program here is the notoriously difficult Piano Concerto No. 2, one of the most challenging in the whole repertoire, about which Schiff himself has said, "For the piano player, it's a finger-breaking piece. [It] is probably the single most difficult piece that I have ever played."
