Two icons of classical music share the stage in this series of three vintage concerts filmed at Chicago's Symphony Center in the early 1990s. Renowned virtuosos and close personal friends Itzhak Perlman and Daniel Barenboim treat us to an unforgettable performance of the complete set of Brahms's masterful sonatas for violin and piano. In this final recording in the set, the pair perform the Sonata No. 3 in D minor, dedicated to Brahms's friend, the celebrated pianist and conductor Hans von Bülow. More abstract and dramatic than the two earlier sonatas, the sonata stands out for its intense energy and unusual key. It opens with a decidedly lyrical Allegro and culminates in a stormy and passionate Presto Agitato.
