The music of Mozart and Estonian minimalist composer Arvo Pärt play out a deeply satisfying dialogue in this unique concert from La Jolla Music Society's SummerFest, featuring a stellar lineup that includes cellist Alisa Weilerstein, pianist Anna Han, and violinist Stefan Jackiw. Resonances echo through the centuries in stirring vocal works performed by VOCES8, Pärt's hypnotic Solfeggio and Mozart's beloved Ave Verum Corpus; piano and string duets including Pärt's heart-breakingly delicate Spiegel im Spiegel with Han and Jackiw, often used in popular media for its simple and undeniable power; the remarkably forward-looking "Dissonance" Quartet that shocked 18th-century listeners; and the fire and frenzy of Fratres — one of Pärt's best known compositions, written without fixed instrumentation and performed for our great pleasure by an Alisa Weilerstein in top form.
