The young pianist Martin Helmchen shows a surprising maturity. In this performance he moves seamlessly from Bach to Mendelssohn by way of Mozart, Schubert, and Schumann. Highlights included Bach’s Partita No. 1 in B-flat major and Liszt’s F minor Prelude (based on a cantata by Bach), Années de Pèlerinage, and Nuages gris.
Martin Helmchen has performed with legendary conductors like Valery Gergiev, Vladimir Jurowski, and Philippe Herreweghe and has won numerous awards, including two Echo Klassik, first prize in the Clara Haskil International Competition, and the Credit Suisse Group Young Artists Award.
