The world-renowned Concerto Italiano, one of the preeminent Baroque ensembles active today, presents a glorious triptych of Italian Baroque masterpieces, under the attentive, expressive, and experienced direction of Rinaldo Alessandrini.
The program begins with Vivaldi’s Credo in E Minor, a typically Vivaldian score brimming with drama, reminiscent of the Violin Concerto Winter, but uniquely set for chorus and orchestra without vocal soloists. Next comes the Miserere for two choirs by Leonardo Leo, a brilliant exemplar of stereophonic-like 18th-century choral music, with the two choirs dialoguing in a moving call and response. Finally, Bononcini's Stabat Mater reveals a profoundly inventive composer with theatrical flair, the quality of whose work is matched by the pristine vocalists and practiced instrumentalists in this group of specialists!
