Andrea Motis demonstrates once again her robust talent during this spectacular concert at Moods in Zurich in 2019. The 27 year old Spanish trumpeter and vocalist was discovered by the multi faceted Joan Chamorro during her participation in the Sant Andreu Jazz Band, a group comprised of highly talented young musicians from around Barcelona. Here, Motis collaborates with her former mentor, Chamorro, as well as other fine musicians to create this large scale concert.
Slide Hampton, Tete Montoliu, Frank Foster, Teddy Edwards, Frank Wess, Bebo Valdés, Randy Brecker and Gary Smulyan—the non-exhaustive list of the musicians that Joan Chamorro has had the pleasure of collaborating with throughout his prolific career. It is after these highly formative experiences that Chamorro was first introduced to Motis while working with the Sant Andreu Band, named after the neighborhood where it was established. Chamorro's mind is blown, it is a fundamental artistic discovery, and he decides to help launch young Motis's career. Today, Andrea Motis is often compared to the likes of Norah Jones. Chamorro’s confidence in Motis’s potential seems, after all, to have shown its full reward.
