American baritone Thomas Hampson presents his 2013 masterclass at the Manhattan School of Music’s Greenfield Hall in New York City. He works with baritone Kurt Kanazawa, tenor Mingjie Lei, mezzo-soprano Gina Perregrino, and soprano Margrethe Friedheim on music by Debussy, Bernstein, Schubert, Mozart, Rossini, Mahler, Strauss, and Schumann.
Legendary American baritone Thomas Hampson first gave a masterclass at the Manhattan School of Music (MSM) in 2007. Since then, the brilliant artist and dedicated music educator has become a fixture at this elite American music conservatory, giving annual masterclasses and serving as a member of the MSM’s Board of Trustees. Here medici.tv presents the last five of those masterclasses, from 2013 through 2017. In each masterclass, Hampson’s experience as a teacher—notably under the auspices of his ground-breaking Hampsong Foundation—shows in his work with talented young singers (MSM bachelors, masters, and doctoral students) on various aspects of their craft, from musical expression to vocal technique to stage presence. Join them on this journey into the heart of the musical art!
