To create a sonic accompaniment for the painter's visual universe, the musicians interpret Mozart's final chamber work, the Adagio and Rondo K. 617, originally composed for glass harmonica but often performed today with a harp. They move on to albescere by London-born composer Rebecca Saunders, for twelve instruments and five voices (used wordlessly, for timbre and texture) and—in a world premiere not to be missed—the newly commissioned Infigure by Augustin Brand for solo violin. The program closes, fittingly, with Rothko Chapel, one of the best-known works by twentieth-century great Morton Feldman, written as "an immobile procession, not unlike the friezes on Greek temples," to accompany the opening of the titular edifice following Rothko's suicide.
