Fabio Luisi conducts Julia Perry, Clara Schumann, and Louise Farrenc — With Lise de la Salle Dallas Symphony Orchestra

About

Maestro Fabio Luisi takes the helm of the excellent Dallas Symphony Orchestra, joined by French star pianist Lise de la Salle, in a magnificent program of works by women composers!

The concert opens with a rarely performed orchestral piece by American composer Julia Perry, entitled A Short Piece for Orchestra. A student of Dallapiccola and Nadia Boulanger, Perry brought melodic inspiration from African-American spirituals to an imposing musical structure rich in complex and frenzied rhythms. Next, pianist Lise de la Salle takes the stage to interpret the sublime and formidable Piano Concerto by Clara Schumann, composed during Schumann's adolescence and first premiered under the baton of Felix Mendelssohn. The program closes with the grandiose Third Symphony by Louise Farrenc, a Romantic work full of verve and brio that brings to mind some of the most memorable moments in the oeuvres of Beethoven, Schubert, and Berlioz.

This is just one of over a thousand thrilling concerts available on medici.tv, the web's leading classical music streaming platform!
