Brass (9)

Brass instruments fall within "wind", but nevertheless set themselves apart by the way their sound is produced—namely through the vibrations of the player's lips. This means that the wooden Alpine horn, the didgeridoo, the Baroque cornett, and the "serpent", an ancient ancestor of the tuba, are still counted as brass! It's not often that brass players, usually confined to the back of the orchestra, take the spotlight. Here they showcase some of the most exciting and under-appreciated compositions in the classical repertoire.
