The Moscow Conservatory’s 2018 inaugural “Svetlanov Universe!” Festival consisted of 13 concerts that brought its native city alive with classical music and honored the incredible legacy of its internationally celebrated alumnus, the conductor-composer Evgeny Svetlanov. The ninth concert of the series pays tribute to the compositional side of its namesake's talents with an all-Svetlanov concert of chamber music works for strings, piano, and woodwind quintet. On the program were Twenty Four Hours in the Country (“Diérévénskié soutki”) for wind quintet, selections from the Five Melodies cycle and the Sonata No. 2 in transcription for viola and piano, selected piano Preludes, and the Sonata No. 1 for Violin and Piano.
