Lahav Shani conducts Gardiner, Stravinsky, Shostakovich, and Prokofiev — With Martha Argerich Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra

About

We've run out of superlatives to describe Martha Argerich, a "young eighty-something at the peak of her abilities"; all we can do is continue to marvel at her inimitable blend of faultless technique, self-assured artistry, and enigmatic personality. Don't miss the living legend in one of her signature pieces, Shostakovich's Piano Concerto No. 1, part of a dynamite lineup alongside the excellent Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra under Lahav Shani. The program also features music by Shostakovich's contemporary compatriots Stravinsky (the haunting Symphony of Psalms) and Prokofiev (excerpts from the beloved Romeo and Juliet), and begins with a transcription for choir and orchestra of Gardiner's Evening Hymn by none other than maestro Shani!
