Sir Antonio Pappano conducts Rossini, Mozart, and Bizet — With Mikhail Pletnev Verbier Festival 2024

About

The instantly recognizable strains of the Overture to Rossini's The Barber of Seville get us underway for a marvelous major-key evening at the 2024 Verbier Festival, conducted by Sir Antonio Pappano! Legendary pianist Mikhail Pletnev joins forces the Verbier Festival Chamber Orchestra to perform Mozart's "Coronation" Piano Concerto No. 26 in D major, exemplary of the brilliant galant style that reigned in the late 18th century. Sir Antonio and the VFCO conclude with Bizet's charming Symphony in C, composed by the opera legend when he was just 17 and unperformed for nearly a century, when it drew enthusiastic acclaim as a youthful masterpiece upon its rediscovery in the 1930s.
