With his album "Guitar in the Space Age!" Bill Frisell takes us back to the decade of his debut as a guitarist: the1960s. For Frisell, then a young teen, it was a period marked by fear—of the Cold War, of the atomic bomb...—and "the music in all of this was an anchor that gave [him] stability." Playing here at the 2014 D'Jazz Nevers Festival alongside bassist Tony Scherr, drummer Kenny Wollesen, and pedal steel guitarist Greg Leisz, the quartet reinvent the music of Pete Seeger, The Byrds, Junior Wells, Dick Dale, The Ventures, The Astronauts, Chef Atkins, and Merle Travis, placing these songs and early sources of musical inspiration into dialogue with some of Frisell's own compositions.
